Castello di Torrechiara

Castello di Torrechiara, It was inaugurated on the wedding day of Odoardo Farnese with Margherita de’Medici. The triumphal arch has a structure with three furnace and is decorated in a Baroque style. Ippolito Medini and Boffa participated for the ornamental part, made with stucco, while Amidano, Giacardi, Salmi, Bertoia and Giovanni Lippi for the pictorial decoration, depicting fundamental scenes of the city’s history. The first renovations date back to 1714, coinciding with the marriage between Elisabetta Farnese and Philip V of Spain, and, later, in 1805, when the arch was restored in neoclassical style on the occasion of the arrival of Napoleon I. Finally, a further restoration dates back to 1825 for the visit of Francesco I and Maria Luigia.
